Thanksgiving weekend and Mt. Sorak

It's been a good weekend. On Thursday I went up to Uijongbu and spent Thanksgiving with some friends I've had for a long time up there. Then Friday I headed to the east coast with my friend, JiYeon. We went to Sorak Mountain. It's about a four hour bus trip from Seoul. On Friday we went to a water park. On Saturday we did sightseeing on the mountain. We saw temples, beautiful views and snow. At about 800 meters there was lots of snow. It was pretty. Even though it's winter it really hasn't been that cold in Seoul yet. I've only worn my winter coat a couple of times.

I've known JiYeon since I came to Korea in 1994! She's a great friend. I'm taking Korean language lessons again so she helped me practice this weekend. I hope this time I can actually learn enough and remember enough to actually have a real conversation some day!

Better late than never

Here's a picture of the little shoe place where I got my shoe fixed. These shoe places are all over the city.

This is a picture of Jin and me in Thailand. We're in a tuk-tuk, a common way of travel in Thailand.

Very Tall

As you can see we ran into some very tall men that day.

Saturday fun

A few weekends ago Chantal and I walked across this bridge to another section of Seoul to do some shopping. There were lots of bikers crossing the bridge that day!

Romans 3:23 and Romans 6:23

I was trying to figure out what verses my students should memorize this quarter. I decided that they should learn the verses from the "Romans Road". These are verses from the book of Romans that explain how to become a Christian. After I assigned the verses I thought maybe I should have picked some verses they weren't so familiar with. However, I believe they were the right verses to pick.

Last week as you know I was in Thailand. Laura subbed for my Bible class. She related the following to me. All the kids took 2 quizzes while I was gone on these verses. Fatima, Hauwra and Dui got everythng wrong on the test except for the Bible verses. My Saudi Arabia girls and my student from Thailand now have God's Word hid in their heart. They may not understand the words right now but someday they will know that, "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, that the wages of sin is death, and best of all that, "the gift of God is eternal life". Exciting isn't it?!

I love Thailand

I realize my blog is called my life in Korea but sometimes I do go outside of Korea!
I'm at an administrator's conference in Bangkok, Thailand. This is my fifth time to visit Thailand. It is a great place. Our conference has been great. I'm so blessed to be able to travel, grow professionally, stay in nice places..We are staying at the Shangri La. I'm wriitng this in the lobby using wireless technology. There's a lady singing (Gonna make my brown eyes blues) and as I look out the window I can see the pool, which is next to the river. On the river are water taxis going back and forth and Chinese boats floating by. It's 10 p.m. so I can see them because they are well lit. On the other side of the river are tall high rise buildings-it's just a beautiful panoramic view.

Sunday was a holiday and so that evening there were fireworks over the river. We watched them from the hotel room. I've gotten to eat delicious Thai food and I've had Mexican food twice! I've had a great time sharing a room with my co-worker and good friend Jin while here. Had a chance to talk wit some of the other administrators in our NICS network. They were from Singapore and China.

Wow, a nice trip.

Middle School Chapel

Ok, I don't get to go to middle school chapel because I'm teaching during that period but I get to hear about what is happening. The middle school chaplain is my neighbor in the school building. He came in and told me about the awesome chapel they had today. He said no one preached. All they did was sing and read scripture. God moved and kids were repenting and expressing their faith in God. There is something going on among our students.

Some boys came into my office and I asked them what was going on in chapel today. One boy said, well, all we had was music and the Word. We listened to the Word and God moved. We didn't need to listen to someone else's interpretation.

God's Word is powerful!
